Bishop’s Charge: A Call to Victorious Christian Living
In his charge, Bishop Ishaya G. Baba delivered an impactful message on living a victorious Christian life amidst today’s moral challenges. His teachings centred on fundamental practices for overcoming sin and worldly temptations. He urged Christians to prioritize heavenly pursuits (Colossians 3:1-14), resist fleshly desires (Colossians 3:5-7), and uphold truth and integrity in all actions (Ephesians 4:25-28). He passionately reminded the congregation of the importance of adopting a Christ-like life, viewing victory over sin as essential to eternal life.
The Bishop highlighted several core areas, including abstaining from anger and malice, maintaining pure language, and taking accountability for one’s actions. He also cautioned against the trivialization of faith in entertainment, urging believers to reject ungodly humour and commit fully to actions that honour God.
Addressing the State of the Nation: Observations on Nigeria’s Challenges and A Call for Moral Integrity
In his address, Bishop Baba turned to national matters and voiced concerns over Nigeria’s current socio-political climate, addressing issues of governance, economic strain, and social justice. He expressed deep concern over the increase in fuel prices, insecurity, and corruption, likening these challenges to locusts devouring the nation’s future. The Bishop also emphasized the importance of integrity in political leadership and stressed the need for national policies that reflect equity and social justice.
The Bishop was particularly vocal about Nigeria’s education system, advocating for better resources and facilities to meet global standards, especially in the sciences. He urged for an overhaul of academic laboratories and resources to meet global standards, commending private institutions that have risen to improve educational quality. Bishop Baba further condemned the rise of fraudulent activities, such as the ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ culture among youth, urging Nigeria’s leadership and justice system to restore moral values. Bishop Baba also cautioned against the normalization of fraud among the youth, asserting that Nigeria’s moral fabric depends on instilling ethical values from a young age.
