Mother’s Union, Women’s Guild & Girls Guild

Overview

The Mothers’ Union, Women’s Guild, and Girls’ Guild constitute one of the most influential and vibrant service arms of the Anglican Diocese of Zaria. These ministries are dedicated to strengthening Christian family life, nurturing spiritual growth among women and girls, and supporting the mission of the Church through prayer, service, and evangelism.

Across the Diocese, women play a vital role in sustaining the spiritual and social life of the Church. Through organized fellowships, outreach programs, and leadership initiatives, the Mothers’ Union, Women’s Guild, and Girls’ Guild provide platforms for women and girls to deepen their faith, develop leadership skills, and contribute meaningfully to the mission of the Church.

The ministry in the Diocese is currently led by Mrs. Felicia Baba, who serves as the Diocesan President, providing spiritual guidance and administrative leadership for these women-focused ministries across the Diocese.


Vision of the Women’s Ministry

The vision of the Mothers’ Union, Women’s Guild, and Girls’ Guild within the Diocese is to build spiritually strong women and young girls who are rooted in Christian faith, committed to the service of God, and dedicated to strengthening families and communities.


Mission of the Women’s Ministry

The ministry seeks to achieve its vision through the following objectives:

  • Promoting Christian family life based on biblical principles
  • Encouraging women to grow spiritually through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship
  • Mentoring young girls to become responsible Christian leaders
  • Supporting evangelistic and outreach programs within the Diocese
  • Providing care and support for families, widows, and vulnerable members of society

Through these initiatives, the women’s ministry contributes significantly to the spiritual vitality and mission of the Diocese.


Mothers’ Union

Strengthening Christian Family Life

The Mothers’ Union is a global Anglican organization committed to promoting stable family life, raising godly children, and supporting women in their roles within the family and society.

Within the Anglican Diocese of Zaria, the Mothers’ Union provides spiritual support and fellowship for married women while encouraging them to live out Christian values in their homes and communities.

Core Areas of Focus

  • Strengthening Christian marriages and family relationships
  • Promoting prayer and spiritual devotion among women
  • Supporting parenting and family counseling initiatives
  • Engaging in charitable and community outreach programs

The Mothers’ Union also organizes prayer meetings, retreats, seminars, and annual conventions that bring women together for spiritual renewal and fellowship.


Women’s Guild

Fellowship and Service

The Women’s Guild provides a broader fellowship platform for women in the Diocese, including married women and other adult female members of the Church.

The Guild encourages women to actively participate in church life and contribute to the growth and development of the Diocese through service and leadership.

Activities of the Women’s Guild

The Women’s Guild organizes a variety of programs and activities aimed at strengthening faith and promoting community engagement, including:

  • Leadership training and empowerment programs
  • Support for church projects and diocesan development

Girls’ Guild

Mentoring the Next Generation

The Girls’ Guild is dedicated to the spiritual and personal development of young girls within the Church. It provides a supportive environment where girls can grow in faith, develop positive character, and prepare for responsible adulthood.

The Guild focuses on mentoring young girls in Christian values and encouraging them to live lives that reflect the teachings of Christ.

Objectives of the Girls’ Guild

  • Teaching Christian values and moral principles
  • Encouraging spiritual growth through Bible study and prayer
  • Developing leadership and life skills among young girls
  • Preparing girls for future roles in church, family, and society

Activities often include mentoring programs, youth gatherings, leadership workshops, and participation in diocesan events.


Leadership of the Women’s Ministry

Diocesan President

The overall coordination of the Mothers’ Union, Women’s Guild, and Girls’ Guild in the Anglican Diocese of Zaria is under the leadership of Mrs. Felicia Baba, who serves as the Diocesan President.

Under her leadership, the women’s ministry continues to strengthen fellowship among women, support diocesan initiatives, and promote the spiritual growth of women and girls across the Diocese.

She works closely with parish and archdeaconry leaders to ensure that the ministry remains active, organized, and impactful throughout the Diocese.


Contribution to the Mission of the Diocese

The Mothers’ Union, Women’s Guild, and Girls’ Guild have historically played a central role in the growth and sustainability of the Anglican Diocese of Zaria.

Zaria Diocese

The Anglican Diocese of Zaria was created out of the present Kaduna Diocese and inaugurated on the 7th of March, 2007 as the 99th Diocese in the Church of Nigeria with the Rt. Rev’d. (Prof) CSS Bello as the Pioneer Bishop. After him was the Rt. Rev’d. Abiodun Ogunyemi, then Rt. Rev’d Dr. Timothy Yahaya as supervising Bishop. The current Bishop is the Rt. Rev’d Ishaya Baba.
