The Anglican Diocese of Zaria commenced its much-anticipated 3-Day Gospel Campaign on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Themed Redeeming Love, this spiritually uplifting event is being hosted at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Aminu Road, Zaria, Kaduna State, under the gracious leadership of the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev’d Ishaya G. Baba.

Day 1 Highlights

The first day of the campaign opened with a charge from Rev’d Canon Ifeanyi Okolie, who fervently prayed for God to grant boldness and the right words to the speaker, as inspired by Ephesians 6:19. The prayer was followed by a vibrant session of praise and worship led by the Diocesan Gospel Band, setting a spiritually charged atmosphere for the gathering.

Welcome Address

Rt. Rev’d Ishaya Baba, in his welcome address, apologized on behalf of the scheduled speaker, Evangelist Sunday Oguche, who was unavoidably absent but sent his son, Evangelist Joshua Oguche, to deliver the message. The Bishop appreciated the presence of all attendees and prayed for God’s blessings over the event.

Day 1 Speaker: Evangelist Joshua Oguche

Evangelist Joshua Oguche began his sermon by expressing gratitude for the opportunity to stand in his father’s stead. He recounted cherished memories with fellow ministers, underscoring the value of godly friendships and their role in navigating life’s spiritual journey.

His message centered on the theme of Redeeming Love (Titus 2:11-15), highlighting the transformative grace of God that brings salvation. He emphasized the following key points:

  1. The Unique Grace of Salvation:

Not all grace is accessible to everyone, but the grace that brings salvation is irresistible and personal.

Using examples from scripture, Evangelist Joshua distinguished between being saved and merely being set free, citing the thief on the cross as a powerful testament to redeeming grace.

  1. Living in the Truth of Christ:

Salvation begins with faith and demands a life of godliness, righteousness, and devotion.

The congregation was urged to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, embracing a life that reflects the love and light of Christ.

  1. Awakening to God’s Light:

Evangelist Joshua called on the congregation to evaluate their lives, ministries, and relationships, ensuring they align with God’s purpose.

He warned against spiritual blindness, territorial darkness, and the dangers of slumbering in one’s faith, illustrating with biblical examples the consequences of unawareness.

Call to Awakening and Revival

The speaker likened spiritual awakening to a call from Jesus, urging the church to arise and shine (Isaiah 60:1). He challenged the audience to resist the darkness that seeks to overshadow lives and embrace the redemptive power of Christ to restore vision, passion, and purpose.

Bishop’s Closing Prayer

Rt. Rev’d Ishaya Baba concluded the service with heartfelt prayers for restoration and renewal. He called upon God to awaken and revive those who boldly surrendered their lives to Him, culminating in a powerful rendition of the hymn There is a Fountain Filled with Blood.

The first day of the campaign left the congregation inspired and deeply reflective. As the campaign continues, the Diocese anticipates greater spiritual breakthroughs in the remaining days.
