Diocesan Media Team

Overview

The Diocesan Mediafor coordinating, managing, and disseminating information about the Diocese’s activities, ministries, and mission and Communication Unit of the Anglican Diocese of Zaria serves as the central platform responsible for coordinating, managing, and disseminating information relating to the activities, ministries, and mission of the Diocese.

In an era where communication technologies play a crucial role in shaping society, the Media Unit functions as the official voice and information hub of the Diocese. Through strategic communication, documentation, and digital engagement, the unit ensures that the message of the Church, as well as its various programs and initiatives, reach members of the Diocese and the wider public effectively.

The unit also plays a significant role in preserving the historical records of diocesan activities while promoting transparency, awareness, and engagement within the Church community.


Leadership and Administration

The Diocesan Media / Communication Unit operates under the leadership of Dr S. I. R. Okoduwa, who serves as the Chairman of the Media Committee and Director of Media / Diocesan Communicator.

Dr. Okoduwa was first appointed as Chairman of the Media Committee on 16 July 2018 by the then Diocesan Bishop, Abiodun Ogunyemi, during his episcopal leadership of the Anglican Diocese of Zaria. Under his leadership, the Media Unit has continued to strengthen the Diocese’s communication structure and enhance the visibility of its programs and ministries.

The leadership of the unit is committed to ensuring that diocesan information is communicated professionally, accurately, and in a timely manner.


Members of the Media Committee

The Media / Communication Unit is supported by a dedicated team of skilled and committed members drawn from various parishes across both rural and urban areas of the Diocese.

Notable members of the team include: Kenneth Omogosible, Ibrahim Onoyuoyiza, Joshua Akinyele, Rohi Ukeje, Rotimi Idowu, Praise Orji, Wilson Elebo, Atusiuba Chijindu

Together with other committed members across the Diocese, the committee works collaboratively to ensure effective communication and media coverage of diocesan activities.


Vision of the Media Unit

The vision of the Diocesan Media / Communication Unit is to establish a dynamic and effective communication system that promotes the mission, ministry, and message of the Church through modern media platforms.

The unit seeks to project the activities and spiritual impact of the Diocese to the wider Church community and society at large.


Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Media / Communication Unit includes:

  • Promoting effective communication across the Diocese
  • Documenting and archiving important diocesan events and historical records
  • Disseminating news, announcements, and updates about diocesan activities
  • Enhancing the online presence of the Diocese through digital platforms
  • Supporting evangelism and outreach through media engagement

Through these objectives, the Media Unit contributes significantly to strengthening communication within the Diocese.


Key Functions of the Media / Communication Unit

1. Documentation of Diocesan Events

The unit is responsible for recording major events of the Diocese, including synods, conferences, special services, ordinations, and evangelistic programs. These records form part of the historical archives of the Diocese.

2. Digital Communication and Online Presence

The Media Unit oversees the Diocese’s presence on digital platforms, including official websites, social media platforms, and other communication channels. Through these platforms, members of the Church and the general public are kept informed about diocesan activities.

3. Media Coverage and Public Relations

The unit provides media coverage for major diocesan events and works to maintain positive public relations for the Diocese within the broader community.

4. Information Dissemination

Important announcements, news updates, and communications from the Diocese are coordinated through the Media Unit to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information.

5. Archival Preservation

The unit also contributes to preserving historical records, photographs, videos, and publications related to the activities of the Anglican Diocese of Zaria.


Role in the Mission of the Church

The Diocesan Media / Communication Unit plays a strategic role in supporting the broader mission of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) by using modern communication tools to promote evangelism, unity, and information sharing.

By effectively communicating the work of the Church, the Media Unit strengthens engagement among members of the Diocese while extending the reach of the Church’s message to wider audiences.

Members of the Media Committee are drawn from various parishes across the Diocese, representing both urban and rural communities within the Anglican Diocese of Zaria. This diverse representation allows the unit to capture activities and developments across the entire diocesan structure.

Zaria Diocese

The Anglican Diocese of Zaria was created out of the present Kaduna Diocese and inaugurated on the 7th of March, 2007 as the 99th Diocese in the Church of Nigeria with the Rt. Rev’d. (Prof) CSS Bello as the Pioneer Bishop. After him was the Rt. Rev’d. Abiodun Ogunyemi, then Rt. Rev’d Dr. Timothy Yahaya as supervising Bishop. The current Bishop is the Rt. Rev’d Ishaya Baba.
