Dedication and Commissioning of Solar Powered Borehole Project by the Bishop of Zaria, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Ishaya G. Baba

Bishop, we need water! We don’t have access to drinking water!!!

Following the Espicorpal visit of His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Ishaya G. Baba to various churches in Zaria Anglican Diocese last year, on his visit to Kauru archdeaconry, St Jude’s Anglican church, Makau-hanya the people cried out like blind bartimeous but this time not for sight but shouting we need water! We don’t have access to drinking water, we travel miles to other towns to get water When the rainy season is over.

The Bishop didn’t respond immediately to the word we need water, the word we need borehole rang in the ears of the Bishop for days and it became a burn for him.

Looking at the situation of things and the economy of the diocese, the Bishop reached out to his friends and colleagues who are outside Nigeria for support on how a Borehole can be constructed for the people of Makau-hanya. His friends and contacts being touched by the condition the people are passing through supported and donated generously for the construction of the borehole project.

To the glory of God, the borehole was commissioned and dedicated for use on Thursday, 28th September 2023 at Makau-hanya community in Kauru LGA, Kaduna State by His Lordship Rt. Rev”d Ishaya G. Baba in the company of some of his Priests, the Diocesan Media team, the village chiefs, community heads and St Jude’s Anglican Church Makau-hanya members.

During the Dedication and commissioning service, the Bishop took his charge from the book of 2kgs 2: 19-22 and narrated the story of Elisha and how he healed the bad water in the city of Jericho and anchored the sermon on the love of Christ that necessitated the healing and also charged the people on the love of Christ. He mentioned that it’s the Love of Christ that has led his friends namely: Clayton and Karen(USA), Philip and Carolina(Brazil), Christopher and Carolyn(UK) and Zion Church, Clarion, Pennsylvania, USA to give generously to this project to the glory of God.

He charged the people and the community that water is not separated, and that water is cohesive(sticks together). That the love of God should bind them together, there should be no denomination sentiment. And that the water is for everyone in the community both Christian and Muslim. That as many who drink the water will encounter the Love of Christ in their life.

He also cautions that the project should be maintained and not mishandled so that it can stand the test of time, and that generations yet unborn can benefit from it.

The project is a solar-powered Borehole water system.

The community expressed their thanks through the village chiefs to His Lordship and his friends that the Lord will bless and prosper them and provide for them and their families and that the Lord will bless Clayton and Karen(USA), Philip and Carolina(Brazil), Christopher and Carolyn (UK) and Zion Church, Clarion, Pennsylvania, USA for this show of love to them.

Most Rev. Henry C. Ndukuba

Suffering, Affliction and Persecution can impede our walk with God. When people suffer physical, economic or social pains, attacks and their rights are denied them they may fall back from following Christ. The attacks on Christian communities have made some people to go back to the traditional religious practices. Bareness, poverty and strife have made many people to walk in the counsel of the ungodly and stand in the path of sinners. It takes the help of God and His enabling grace to stand suffering, affliction, and persecution especially when such come because of our faith in Christ Jesus.  Jesus makes it clear that persecution, rejection and attacks even death may come. Some may afflict believers as a way of proving their piety. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulations; but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.[1]” The response of believer in Christ to suffering, attacks and persecution should be like the Disciples in Acts 4. At such times let us intentionally submit to God and not be discouraged or murmur. It is as we submit to God humbly that we can receive grace to resist the Devil and cause him to flee. Our heart disposition matters a lot. A heart of praise toward God will always prevail. Faith can sing through days of sorrow and tribulation in hope.

The Hymn writer, Mary Peter wrote “Through the love of God our Saviour, all will be well… We expect a bright tomorrow, all will be well. Faith can sing through days of sorrow; all will be well. On our Father’s love relying Jesus every need supplying, then in living or in dying, all will be well.[2]” In the face of persecutions the Church should rise up in Prayer and desire the more that God be glorified, the Gospel be the more proclaimed with boldness and that the hand of the LORD be manifested in confirming God’s Word with the proof of His power in the Name of Jesus Christ. We need to engage the authority and people in advocacy and stand against the unjust systems in the society. Christians must engage in socio-political actions that will transform the society. We believe that the Word of God has power to change the individual and transform the society and community.

The bishop and the people of zaria diocese are not surprised about the views and apologies expressed by Archbishop Lamido at the Governor’s office yesterday the 12th of November 2019 because Bishop Lamido is known to always compromise christian standards and the truth. Like we wrote few days ago this is the bishop that sold three very precious landed properties of wusasa diocese to some muslims. These properties were acquired by missionaries in the late 1800s. These great legacies have been lost forever by the wusasa community. Besides at one of the meetings of Northern bishops, Bishop Lamido brought a muslim governorship candidates with money to bribe the house of bishops to vote for this man against Governor El Rufai. His antecedents when it comes to standing for the church speak volume. The diocese of zaria is not at war with the Governor and we are not religious bigots as stated by bishop Lamido in the government house. We are only fighting for our right. Nobody can stop us from fighting for our right. Besides, prophets do not apologize to kings but kings apologies to prophets.   Nobody can propose to demolish our cathedral and we will keep quiet or apologise. A letter was written by KASUPDA on the orders of the Governor to us to quit the cathedral premises within 7 days and we responded in the best possible ways together with CAN and other christian organisations all over the world. Bishop Lamido deliberately avoided CAN in his humiliating visit to the government house. Rather than apologising to the Governor, the Governor should apologise to the church and the general public for embarrassing himself with the quit notice. The diocese of zaria is disaassociating herself completely from the humiliating visit and the apologies therein. The governor should stop embarrassing himself with demolition of churches in any part of kaduna state. Any attempt to demolish our shops or our properties in sabongari market is evil, callous and wicked and will be associated with the wrath of God. The whole of the sabongari market is our land acquired in the early 1900s with genuine C of O which we have submitted to the state govt for recertification.  Any attempt by El Rufai to demolish any of our properties in that market will be a direct assault on the church in the whole of Nigeria . All these visits and apologies is planned by +lamido and +fearon to score a political point for the Governor because he is being prepared for 2023 elections. The governor should know that he will never be president of Nigeria.  I speak prophetically as a servant of the living God. Let fake Christians and religious spies placed in our church by a particular religion be aware of the consequences of their actions because heaven is watching. May the Lord expose these spies in our midst on Jesus Name. In fact their actions now show very clearly that they are working for an interest against the church. The Lord in His mercies will raise help to deliver His church from fake Christians, fake converts and novices.
